Sustainability
Here at The Northern Lands Leather, I am committed to crafting legacy pieces that stand the test of time. Each item serves as your companion, the marks and memories tell your story as you carry it every day. My dedication to quality materials, expert craftsmanship and sustainable practices ensures each product I create is designed to last. At the heart of my craft lies a deep respect for the materials used and the environment that sustains us all.
That's why I choose to work with vegetable tanned leather, a material that is not only beautiful and durable but also sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Vegetable tanning is a natural and traditional process that utilises plant-based tannins instead of harsh chemicals. It's a slower, more labour-intensive process that requires skilled craftsmen to work the hides by hand. The result is a leather that is supple, long lasting, and safe for the environment.
Choosing vegetable tanned leather means that I am actively reducing my carbon footprint and supporting responsible land use practices. It's a small but meaningful way to honour both the Earth and its resources - I take pride in knowing that each of my handmade products is made with the utmost care for both people and planet.
I believe that the things we buy, and use, should reflect our values and commitment to ethical living.

Business cards - G.F Smith, Extract
Extract is a pioneering paper inspired by our environment. It is a dynamic combination of chemistry and artistry that takes disposable paper coffee cups destined for landfill and transforms them into beautiful paper. Using CupCyclingTM technology, 90% of the waste from each cup is taken and converted back into FSC certified paper fibre. This means every sheet of Extract in 380gsm paper contains at least five upcycled coffee cups. The remaining 10% of waste - which is plastic - will become something else entirely. It is a zero-waste process, so the more Extract that gets used, the fewer cups go to landfill or incineration.
Packing notes - Neenah, Environment
With a minimum of 30% post-consumer fibres and sustainable raw materials, it is no wonder that Neenah Environment papers are FSC, Green-e and Green Seal certified. Manufactured by the Neenah paper mill in Wisconsin, 90% of the water used in the process is returned to the Fox River. With various environmental and recycling initiatives, one of the oldest paper mills in America is ensuring the future of production with sustainability is at the core.
Certificate of authenticity - Gmund, No Colour
Paper in its purest form. As the name suggests, Gmund No Colour is a simple white sheet with no added dyes, and Gmund No Bleach is produced using unbleached and undyed pulp. Each sheet of Gmund No Colour No Bleach is unique and individual. The high-quality long fibres used in the paper’s manufacture create a durable surface with a natural character.
